The main area for the drivers in this series to consider are as following:
General Rules of Austeam Racing
:
WELCOME TO AUSTEAM RACING
Our mission: To create a friendly racing environment where drivers can learn, have fun and develop their racing abilities.
• Austeam Racing welcomes Australian & New Zealand drivers who are interested in being a part of and contributing to a racing environment
• We are about having fun and respecting your fellow race driver
FORUM USAGE
:
A message Forum is provided for league members to communicate with each other.
• No FLAMING
• Be respectful to your fellow members
• Any derogatory posts can and will be deleted
• Remember this is a family environment
Racing Rules of Austeam Racing
:
PRACTICE
• All drivers are encouraged to practice as much as possible both online and offline
QUALIFYING
• No chat, auto-chat or voice communications during qualifying.
WARMUP
• There will be up to a 10 minute warm up to allow for correct setup choice, locating your pit box, drink, smoke or toilet breaks. Some drivers with connection or computer problems may wish to use this time wisely.
RACE
• Respect your fellow racers. If you do not think you will be able to safely complete a pass – do not attempt it.
• If you see smoke ahead your first instinct should be to lift off the accelerator and be ready to brake or take avoiding action.
• Keep an eye out for in game chat (at the top of the screen) for pit announcements or directions on which side to pass
STARTS
• Starts and restarts are the most dangerous times of a race. Staying out of trouble ensures you finish the race
• Double file starts are sometimes used for oval type racing race starts.
• Over aggressive drivers or driving on restarts that leads to an accident will be dealt with by Series Managers and/or Administration.
• Jumping or anticipating the start and deliberately lagging behind on restarts is strongly discouraged. A jumped start is considered 10mph over the pace car limit before the green flag drops.
• If there is any passing required before the start finishing please sort without causing harm to others on track , for ovals racing direct the passing cars to go high.
PASSING
• Cars about to be lapped are encouraged to let cars on the lead lap pass, if however it is safe for you to do so.
• Cars that are overtaking are expected to show patience and pass SAFELY not just expect the car in front to yield straight away.
• Ensure you do not pass outside of the track markers
• Blocking (changing your line more than once in an obvious attempt to save position) is prohibited
CAUTIONS
• When the yellow flags have been displayed, maintain your position on the track. DO NOT brake suddenly unless you are right behind the accident
• With oval events, when you reach the start/finish line, lift off the accelerator to coast down to the pace car speed by the back straight. DO NOT apply the brakes suddenly.
• Give yourself room of at least 0.5 of a second to the cars around whilst under safety/pace car conditions.
• Hold a steady speed whilst following the pace car. Do not speed up, then slow down rapidly.
• The lead car needs to hold the pace car speed until the green flag is waved for a restart
• There are penalties for brake checking and scrubbing tyres in oval racing as they do cause incidents whilst under these conditions. Road racers however can leave a bit or room and scrub tyres until given the one lap until green signal whereby they need to fall inline for the race start.
PITTING
• As a part of preparation, a driver is expected to know
• the pit lane speed
• your pit box location
• where to enter into and exit from the pits
• safely merge back into the race
• using pit signals for entering and exit the pit lane
• Merge means just that – don’t drive straight into a car beside but merge/blend in with the racing already happening around you.
DAMAGED CARS
• If your car sustains damage during an accident, wait for all traffic to pass (or a reasonable gap is seen) until you can SAFELY build up your speed. If your car is damaged, you should pit and get as much damage fixed as possible. Anyone causing further incidents with a damaged car or not waiting for all cars to pass will be penalised from the League Directors.
• If you car is heavily damaged, be sure to take real care getting back to pit lane and / or consider canceling your race.
SERVER CONNECTION
• Warp comes from having Internet or ISP connection issues. If all cars are disappearing or "moving" across the track in an erratic fashion, this may be due to warp. If you are warping you need to either:
• let all cars pass without racing them and stay out of the way (High or Low side)
• retire to the pits until your connection improves
• retire from the race
• If you disconnect (fall off the server) during a race and you can re-enter a race. " Please take extra care re-entering the race"
SERVER MALFUNCTION
• Series Managers and/or Administration have the right to Red Flag or Restart a race if there is a server error/crash/multiple disconnections or other problem.
• Once the race has completed more than 75%, racing it can be stopped by following these guidelines.
§ The League Director announces the race is called and all drivers (under caution conditions) line up in position on the back straight for ovals or best place for roads.
§ Wait for all drivers to stop and then press escape and retire from the race
§ Wait for the game to switch to Race: Complete and save the export file and replay.
POST-RACE PROCEDURES
• When you have completed the race, slow down and return to your pit box and exit your car,
the race winner is the only car allowed to celebrate on the start / finish line
.
CHAT AND AUTOCHAT
• In using the chat function during the game, derogatory remarks or flaming (badgering, swearing, constant or unacceptable chatter) is not tolerated on any medium at Austeam Racing. Penalties will be applied. Chat during racing conditions should be kept to a minimum at all times with limited text across the screen.
• Please keep all message short and to the point. Long messages are hard to read whilst racing and lose their effect quickly.
• It is highly recommended that you customize your AUTOCHAT so others can identify your actions. For example:
1. Mr. Red Card (#177) Pitting
2. Mr. Red Card (#177) Exiting Pit
3. Pass Mr. Red Card (#177) LOW
4. Pass Mr. Red Card (#177) HIGH
5. Mr. Red Card (#177) Passing LOW
6. Mr. Red Card (#177) Passing HIGH
7. Mr. Red Card (#177) Damaged and Off Pace
8. Mr. Red Card (#177) Says Thank You
9. Mr. Red Card (#177) Says Sorry
0. Mr. Red Card (#177) Slowing For Caution
• Some people prefer to use voice communication programs such as TeamSpeak. This is supported at Austeam Racing.
PROTESTS
Series Managers can look into an instance of why there were caution periods during racing. If, as a driver, you felt that an incident warrants a protest or the attention of the Series Managers or Mr. Red Card, you can forward your account of the incident for review.
Please use the following guidelines:
• The replay should be no longer than 1 minute in duration
• The replay should be no shorter than 15 seconds before contact and 10 seconds after
• The replay should be zipped up before sending
• The name of the replay should follow series_season_car a>v< car_lap#.zip (for example) 06-01N_177v13_Lap14.zip
Protests can be lodged after race results have been uploaded through the SLS system

DRIVER EXPECTATIONS
All drivers at Austeam Racing are expected to:
• Enter the server 15 minutes before the commencement of qualifying
• Use their real names and the number.
• Have FUN! Whilst rules are necessary it doesn’t always stop people from having fun
• Try and keep a level-head even in the toughest of conditions.
HOLDING YOUR LINE
• If you make a mistake and wide of the track (or catch an apron and get loose – Ovals) - HOLD YOUR LINE!!! Regain control of your car and safely re-enter the race line when appropriate.
• Deliberate acts of crashing/wrecking or spinning others will find you removed from Austeam Racing.
BE AWARE OF OTHERS
• Use your mirrors, listen to your spotters, use the live data screen. Be aware of other cars. You need to respect the room that is given by other drivers and also give room. Ensure your mirror is turned on
BE POLITE
• Don't use any bad language and this includes shortened text (IE: WTF) and remember that this racing is FREE, so don't abuse the privilege! We all like to have fun and we hope you will too.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
• All racers at least have some knowledge of the track before they arrive. We strongly encourage all drivers to run a few laps (if not 100!) before entering practice on a Sunday night.
DAMAGE
• Rubbin’s Racin’? NO! Racing online couldn’t be further from this. Because of differing speeds of computers and connections, you will find you will have to give some room. Rubbing door-handles may appear to be fun, but so often ends with some spinning or crashing. Give room
• If you end up with damage, ensure you pit at the next possible moment to fix as much damage as possible. A damaged car does not handle well and can effect your overall finishing position.
3 words..... Patience, Survive and Fun!
