No more rego stickers
Registration stickers/discs will no longer be issued for light motor vehicles
In an innovative approach to vehicle registration efficiency, the Government will no longer issue registration stickers and discs for light vehicles. Amendments to the governing legislation (Road Traffic Act 1974) have been completed and are effective on 1 January 2010.

This initiative has been made possible through advances in technology, which facilitate roadside registration checks being carried out by advanced wireless equipment and number plate recognition software.

mmmmmmm, as an ex " coppa", it was easy to tell at a glance if a vehicle was registered or no sticker was a good excuse to have a look further into the vehicle/driver which usually gave results.....

nahh not stoopid... jus a further avenue to impose on your privacy with no legal barrier.
At the end of the  day, it jus gives them more of an excuse to pull ya over if ya car looks/sounds suspicious or even if they jus don't like the looks of ya!! Shocked

Also as an ex 'coppa' - was 18 when i joined SAPOL; was 18 and 8mths when i became a civilian again Grin.
I didnt pursue a career, cos 1985 coppas had quite a different outlook on ALL peoples of the non-caucasian persuasion than your average citizen Joe back then. Lips sealed

Big Brother just got another weapon in his arsenal to stifle our social freedom.  Sad Angry

I htink its a good idea really. one less piece of crap i need to stick to my bikes if they eventually follow here in vic.

TBH, nowdays cops wouldnt even look at the rego labels considering a 10sec check on the onboard computers and now wireless handhelds they can know the entire cars history and current status.... rego labels are pointless really.

draik, doesnt really impose another loss of freedoms or rights... crappy cops already go thru all those roadside checks anyway with their wireless/incar stuff.

yep not a bad idea.
Cops prob always check details in computer once pulled over anyway

We already have no freedom anyway with all those "think of the children" people sanitizing everything, companies handing out all our personal info and camera everywhere  etc etc

now we cant even go to the fireworks on australia day and have a beer.
how unaustralian is that
whether theres alcohol or not when you got over 100 000 people in an area theres always going to be a few idiots causing problems.
but ofcourse its all the alcohols fault so gotta ban that an everything will be fine  Roll Eyes

Its kinda cool. I'd like to know what they will do with the saved $$$ from printing and where they'll use it.

Oz Day and banning of drinking is a shame but thats thanks to the 20% of idiots who stuffed it up for the rest of us previous years Sad
